Dental Implant FAQs

World-Leading, Expert Implant Advice

How long has Westmount Dental Surgery been offering dental implants? We have been offering clients dental implants since 2008 – but Ash Quraishi has been offering dental implant placement since 2004.

How long do Implants last?

Implants are relatively new so there is no authoritative answer. However, we would like to think that the implants will last a lifetime if well looked-after. The acknowledged success rate is around 97 percent.

How long does it take?

This depends on the individual case. In some cases, teeth are placed on the same day but implants are generally left to heal for around 3-6 months.

Can I bring somebody along to the consultation?

We actively encourage patients to bring somebody along to the consultation, as there is a great deal of information to wrap your head around.

Can my dentist attend the consultation?

Your dentist is more than welcome to attend consultations during the treatment process.

How many visits are required?

Most people require between 8 and 12 appointments.

Does it hurt?

The procedure does not hurt as the gum tissue will be numbed to prevent pain and most people compare the discomfort levels to a simple tooth extraction. In simple cases, no pain relief is required.

Should I quit smoking?

Quitting smoking is advisable as smoking increases the risk of implant failure significantly and is harmful to oral and general health.

Can I have implants instead of dentures?

This is possible in the majority of cases. It is also possible to support dentures with dental implants to improve fit, function and comfort.

Will anyone be able to notice the implants?

Implants look exactly like natural teeth so nobody will be able to tell the difference – unless you go ahead and tell them!

Will I have to come back to the surgery for follow-up appointments?

Yes, we advise all our patients to attend regular checks (every 12 months) so that we can check the stability and position of the implant. We also recommend seeing your regular dentist every 6 months for routine check-ups.

Will I be left with no teeth?

While your implants are healing you will be given temporary restorations to ensure smile aesthetics is maintained.

Do I have to be referred by my dentist?

No, if you are interested in having dental implants please call us to arrange a consultation.
